CAYO LEVANTADO SAMANA
BY Paula Hughes Court, Editor, Cruise-Information.Com

Cayo Levantado Samana is a new cruise port for
Norwegian Cruise Lines and a featured private island for
MSC Cruises. Though Norwegian cruise ships list Cayo
Levantado
as a port stop, visitors should know that the
actual tenders take passengers to the town of Samana, not
to the island of
Cayo Levantado. Currently, the best and
cheapest way for cruise passengers to see
Cayo
Levantado
is to book a cruise shore excursion directly
through Norwegian.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers two choices of Cayo
Levantado shore excursions:

CAYO LEVANTADO BEACH ESCAPE
-$29
On the Cayo Levantado Beach Escape the tenders take
passengers directly from the ship to the island where a cold
rum punch will be waiting for them. Beach chairs are free,
but there is a charge for other beach equipment such as
floating mats.

CAYO LEVANTADO BEACH PARTY-$69
The price of the Cayo Levantado Beach Party includes a
barbeque lunch, a nonalcoholic drink, beach, chairs,
floating mats and snorkel equipment. Recent cruise
passengers reported back that the barbq lunch was
inedible. There have also been complaints about local
workers on the island trying to cheat cruise passengers
about what is included in the beach party excursion price.
Both
Cayo Levantado excursions last 4 hours.

BACARDI ISLAND
Cayo Levantado in the Dominican Republic is also known
as Bacardi Island due to the resemblance to beaches and
palm trees featured in Bacardi ads. On Cayo Levantado
you'll find white sand beaches, rainforests and crystal clear
water. There are a few shops on Cayo Levantado featuring
art work and crafts by local artists.

WHALE WATCHING
From January to April 1st, Cayo Levantado is also a prime
location to spot humpback whales.

We will be visiting Cayo Leventado the first week of April. Please
check back for a full review of the island.
