BAHAMAS
Soft white beaches, crystal clear turquoise water and a semi-tropic
climate are the main reason so many people choose the Bahamas
as the place to spend a perfect family vacation. It was the famous
Christopher Columbus in an expedition backed by King Ferdinand
and Queen Isabella of Spain who first set foot on the Island of San
Salvador--one of the 700 plus islands that make up the archipelago,
known today as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Located less
than 100 miles off the coast of Florida, the Bahamas are easy to get
to by air or by sea.

DINING AND LODGING IN THE BAHAMAS
Bahamian cuisine is available roadside and in fine-dining
restaurants that also serve all types of cuisine. The Bahama
Islands offer many great lodging accommodations. The Bahamas
are a year round destination but the best time to come is during the
summer when the water is very warm.  The peak season is from
mid-December to mid-April. During this time rates are highest.

CULTURE AND LANGUAGE OF THE BAHAMAS
The islands of the Bahamas are known for their vibrant musical
culture and the country has produced several traditional forms of
music, including goombay, a synthesis of calypso, soca and
English folk songs usually featuring guitar, accordion and shakers
made from the pods of poinciana trees. In the Bahama Islands
there is a diverse culture rich with customs that remind tourists of
the Bahamian love for celebration. English is spoken by almost
everyone except a few immigrants who speak Creole.

ISLANDS OF THE BAHAMAS
The Bahama Islands has something for everyone. Nassau, the
nation's capital is very Americanized but has a Caribbean flavour. It
has known hundreds of years of democracy and the people here
are very friendly. Pineapples are grown on Eleuthera; Abaco is
famous for sailing; Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island has the
pale pink sand on three miles of beach and Bimini is famous for
sportfishing.

FREEPORT
The Island's most popular area, Freeport/Lucaya, is very modern
and is less Bahamian. Grand Bahama is the second most popular
destination in The Bahamas and a popular place for eco-tourism.
Family Islands, like the Abacos and Eleuthera are very quiet and
some of the islands do not have telephones.

OTHER BAHAMAS ACTIVITIES
Activities also include windsurfing, horseback riding, beach parties,
bicycle tours, scooter rentals, boat charters, boat rentals, boat tours,
dinner and dolphin cruises, all types of fishing and much more.
Tourists will enjoy the bonfires that are offered on many islands.
These fun gatherings may include dinner, dancing and games.
Some also offer native shows with entertainment such as
fire-eaters, Calypso, limbo, and native performers. Another fun
activity are the banana boat rides - large inflated bright yellow
banana boats that are pulled by a boat while riders of the banana
bounce for a more thrilling ride.

WATERSPORTS IN THE BAHAMAS
With 2500 miles of ocean wall drop-offs and underwater caverns,
the islands offer some of the best watersports in the world. There
are coral reefs near every island, a delightful display of bright
colored sea life and many ship and plane wrecks to explore. Some
of the island residents believe that part of the 'lost' city of Atlantis lies
just off the Biminis.
